I’ve always said that we get the best weather in Chicago. You see we don’t get hurricanes, earthquakes or tornados. We live pretty far from any volcanoes and it's been a long time since any asteroids have hit us. The only thing we have to worry about is the winters and that dreaded lake effect snow. Don’t get me wrong I’m not a huge fan of the winters here, the dreary grey skies, the cold, the snow. It’s not fun but I’m willing to live with it because it could be worse. For me personally the worst thing about the winter is what it does to cars.
The cold weather absolutely ruins batteries, they freeze up and become very heavy paper weights. I’m sure this is nothing new to anyone reading this, you’ve all experienced a dead battery at one point or another. What you might not know is some easy ways to prevent this from happening.
The very best thing you can do is simply drive the car. I understand with many people working from home and not going out much cars aren’t being driven, if that's the case it’s a good idea to start it one a week and let it run for 15 or 20 minutes. If you're worried that might not be enough and your battery is near the end of its life feel free to swing by, we can run a full system test and be sure your battery and alternator are gonna get you through the winter. Batteries just don't last as long as they used to, this is part in due to cars computers being more complex and part due to them being smaller to save on space in smaller cars.
